The Reader’s job is to proclaim the Word of God in the liturgical assembly. God speaks to the faithful through them, and the effectiveness of their proclamation of God’s Word depends significantly on their conviction, preparation, and delivery. Readers must feel at ease with public speaking, and demonstrate an ability to use clear, effective, and expressive speech in a microphone. Each lector is given a workbook of all the readings for the liturgical year and is expected to practice so that readings flow and words are correctly pronounced. The readers may also read the General Intercessions as well as the Welcome before Mass.
The ministry is open to confirmed youth and adults who can proclaim God’s Word with understanding, conviction, and clarity. All Readers are given a workbook of all the readings for the liturgical year and is responsible for practicing these readings so that they flow and words are correctly pronounced.
