Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. While all the ministries in the Faith Community are important and have their own special dignity, because of the centrality of the Holy Eucharistic in our life, the Eucharistic Ministry has a special place. In a deeper sense, these ministers are called from the community of those gathered to praise the Lord to “feed the Body of Christ to the Body of Christ.”
Participation is open to practicing Catholics 16 years of age and who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. At present, the EMHC are not scheduled, but offer their ministry when they arrive for Mass. Training and formation is provided.
Some ministers take communion to the sick in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, or at home; please see our Pastoral Care ministry for more information.
