Trained or untrained?

It is NOT a must that you have musical training! You do not need to be a professional singer to join! Choir members’ abilities range from those who read music to those who do not. Some natural music ability is needed, though, and most important is the music minister’s love of worship through music and a desire to work together expressing our faith in “one voice.”

If, however, you are a trained singer or instrumentalist, the sharing of your talent and skill will be hugely appreciated, a blessing to the song of the assembly, and inspire all music ministers to strive for ever greater sounds. We do strive for quality in our sung prayer, and are committed to continuing to build and improve. There are ways for you to share your gift on a regular OR occasional basis.

But What if I have to miss?

While it is preferable and best for the health of the choir that a singer commit to a consistent schedule of attendance at rehearsals and ministry on Sundays, the ensemble does include singers who, because of work or family obligations, are unavailable to rehearse and/or serve on a regular basis.

6 Choirs!

We are blessed to have 6 groups at Divine Mercy, each with their own unique style and sound, each waiting to welcome more participants!  We are also hopeful that new groups will continue to bloom! Feel free to visit rehearsal any time!

Paradisum Choir (The funeral choir)

The Paradisum Choir is the parish funeral choir. The name comes from In paradisum ("into paradise"), an antiphon from the traditional Latin liturgy of the Requiem Mass sung by a choir as the body is being taken out of the church.

  • Rehearsals: A couple each year.

  • Funeral Masses: Monday through Saturday mornings; come when you are available!

  • Notes: In addition to leading the singing, our presence and our music offers support and consolation to those who are grieving.
