Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word is a program designed to teach the Gospel readings to young children at a level they can understand. This program is for children ages 3 through kids in first grade. It takes place during the 10 am Mass on most Sundays during the school year.
Children will sit with their parents during the first part of Mass. The Priest will call them forward before the first reading and they will go to another area in the church with their teachers. Teachers will have the children practice the sign of the cross, teach them how to genuflect, pray, read the Gospel, talk about the Gospel in a way that's easy for them to understand, and have the kids participate in activities. Activities will alternate between singing, coloring, and short games. Children reenter Mass during the offering.
The Children's Liturgy of the Word program is coordinated by adults, but middle and high school youth are encouraged to volunteer. The time you spend helping with the program can count for volunteer hours required through school or church.
