Cantors are talented singers who lead the sung worship for Mass when there is no choir present. They do so individually or in a group of 2-3. The cantor is a soloist during the singing of the psalm and occasional other pieces during the liturgy. Cantors need to be more advanced singers, have the ability to read music and learn independently, and are well prepared for their scheduled Mass. They are motivated not by singing solos, but by the goal of enabling the assembly in singing. They have a good sense of flow in the liturgy, and have confidence in this leadership role.
